Modern English

Overview

  • A combined level class designed to be more challenging than the SLE program for students who have less time to practice their English or who want to learn more native level English.
The activities in the books are at level but the language is several levels higher and contains more difficult vocabulary, language structures and a mix of British and American English.
The book is supplemented with a series of articles based on current events.

Aims and Levels

  • Modern English is a combined level of SLE 4-6 but does not have incremental levels.
The course can be studied for a maximum of four months with a different book provided for each month.
The focus in the books is to introduce students to higher level vocabulary and functional English rather than levelled English. Where there are major differences between US and British English this is highlighted and practiced. By studying world English students are likely to improve their conversation skills more quickly.
